Annual Report 2025: A better marketplace for a changing world
Today, we release our 2025 Annual Report, charting a year in which the global consumer movement grew its reach and impact amid a challenging period for civil society. Together with Members, governments, international organisations, businesses and civil society partners, Consumers International ensured that consumer perspectives helped shape the decisions influencing everyday life around the world.
2025 saw artificial intelligence (AI) move from an emerging technology to a mainstream policy priority, digital financial services expand rapidly alongside growing concerns about scams and fraud, and the transition to more sustainable economies gathered pace, reshaping how consumers access energy, food and essential services.Throughout these changes, Consumers International championed consumer needs and experiences in discussions about the future of markets.
Through engagement with institutions and forums including the United Nations, the International Telecommunication Union, the World Economic Forum and COP30, we helped strengthen the role of consumer advocates in informing the policies, standards and innovations that affect people’s everyday lives.
A year of growing impact
The report highlights a global movement operating at unprecedented scale.
- World Consumer Rights Day, held under the theme A just transition to sustainable lifestyles became Consumers International’s largest ever, bringing together close to 700 participants, 120 speakers and more than 100 Member-led campaigns worldwide.
- Our Fair Digital Finance Accelerator supported more than 70 consumer organisations across over 50 countries to build safer, more inclusive digital financial systems, contributing to at least 10 legislative or industry improvements across six countries.
- Our Consumer Coalition to Stop Scams expanded to 40 organisations tackling one of the fastest-growing forms of consumer harm, culminating in the release of a Global Action Agenda and Consumers International's first Scams Barometer.
- We deepened our efforts on sustainability and clean energy: Green Action Week reached approximately 6.7 million people through campaigns led by 30 Members, while Member-led Renewable Energy One-Stop-Shops launched in Thailand, Colombia and Chile to help consumers navigate the clean energy transition.
- We brought consumer perspectives into major international processes, including the 9th UN Conference on Competition and Consumer Protection, UNCTAD16, the fifth session of negotiations on a global plastics treaty, and efforts that helped advance a United Nations Resolution on Global Product Safety to the UN General Assembly. This representation matters because the decisions taken in international forums increasingly shape how markets work for consumers at home.
Looking ahead
Against a backdrop of rising living costs, rapid technological change and mounting global uncertainty, Consumers International will continue to champion consumer interests in the decisions shaping future markets. In the year ahead, we will launch new work in artificial intelligence, product safety and clean air, deepen efforts to build trust in instant payment systems, and continue supporting consumer advocates to engage, influence and adapt.
"At a time when the world urgently needs more trust, fairness and accountability, we are proud to help represent the consumer voice globally.” - Marimuthu Nadason, President of Consumers International.
