World Consumer Rights Day 2026

Every year the global consumer movement and other influential stakeholders come together to celebrate World Consumer Rights Day on March 15the only internationally recognised day dedicated to promoting consumer rights, protection, and empowerment. Consumers International is proud to coordinate the day through a multistakeholder approach that brings together our 200 Members, alongside international organisations, governments, businesses, and civil society worldwide.

Manufactured products are part of everyday life, yet their safety is not always guaranteed. From design and manufacturing to marketing and sale, countless decisions determine whether goods are reliable, compliant and fit for purpose. For 2026, we unite to call for Safe Products, Confident Consumers.

ABOUT THE THEME

Across the world, consumers continue to encounter unsafe products – from children’s toys and household electronics to medicines and daily essentials. As global supply chains grow more complex and online commerce expands, dangerous products move faster and further.

Product safety is more than a regulatory issue, it is fundamental to the human rights to life, health and safety. When systems fall short, consumers pay the price through injury, financial loss, environmental harm and, in the most serious cases, loss of life. Addressing these risks requires coordinated cross-border action, stronger enforcement and closer collaboration between governments, businesses and consumer organisations.

World Consumer Rights Day 2026 unites our global movement behind this urgent call. With insights from Members and international partners, and aligned with the recently adopted resolution establishing the first-ever United Nations Principles for Consumer Product Safety, as well as the OECD Recommendation on Consumer Product Safety, we will highlight the realities consumers face and champion solutions that ensure every person can rely on Safe Products, Confident Consumers.

Safe Products, Confident Consumers Dialogues

On Monday 16 March 2026, we will host a day of global dialogues where the consumer voice takes centre stage. Bringing together consumer advocates, businesses, governments and multilateral organisations, sessions will explore how stronger product safety systems can protect people, build trust, and strengthen markets worldwide.

How do different sectors define product safety and risk? Where are systems failing consumers most visibly? Who is leading the way in product safety, and what lessons can be shared globally?

Across three dialogues, we will consider these issues through the lived experience of consumers and the policy, regulatory, and business actions needed to close persistent safety gaps. From frontline evidence shared by consumer organisations to high-level discussions on regulation and accountability, the day will set priorities for collective advocacy and action through 2026 and beyond.

Consumer advocates unite on March 15

Throughout March, and building momentum in the lead-up to Sunday 15 March, Consumers International Members from around the world alongside partners will unite behind the call for Safe Products, Confident Consumers. Our global network of Members, spanning over 100 countries, will take action to ensure the consumer voice is heard in calling for stronger global action to stop unsafe products. From public awareness campaigns and policy advocacy to research and community engagement, activities worldwide will highlight the urgent need for safer products for all.
