Consumers International Director General to step down

13 September 2018

Consumers International has today announced that Amanda Long will step down as Director General.

Amanda Long joined the organisation in January 2014. During this time, she has overseen Consumers International’s increasingly important and impactful role working for consumers globally on issues relating to food, finance, digital, sustainable consumption and trade as well as delivering greater member engagement and satisfaction.

During her five years in post she has spearheaded governance reform to ensure the leadership of the organisation is fit for purpose. She has built an excellent team of staff and effectively restructured the organisation to put Consumers International on a more sustainable financial footing. During her tenure as Director General, Amanda has also delivered a substantial increase of recognition and engagement from key stakeholder audiences as well as overseeing a total brand revamp. Finally, she has introduced and began implementing a bold new strategic plan, with exciting prospects for greater organisational relevance, impact and sustainability.

Amanda, who is moving to take up a Chief Executive role in the commercial sector will continue as Director General until the end of the year. In the meantime, Amanda does not intend to slacken pace. Over the coming months she will be working diligently to assist the Board to find a suitable replacement and continuing to work alongside the management team to implement the new strategy so that her successor can join the organisation and move forward with the new strategy.

Announcing her decision, Amanda Long, said:

It has been an honour and a privilege to work alongside our global community of staff, members and partners to deliver for consumers globally. I am delighted that we have achieved so much together in the past five years. While I will be very sorry to leave my colleagues and friends across our excellent staff team, Board, Council and global membership, I know I leave Consumers International on the right path to continue to increase its impact into the future.

Bart Combee, President of Consumers International, said:

It is with regret that I accepted Amanda’s decision to step down after five years of excellent service.

Over the last few years Amanda has, together with the membership, fundamentally transformed Consumers International into a more networked organisation that has increased its impact for consumers and added even more value for members. Creating a new and inspiring strategy, reforming our governance and reshaping the organisation, alongside a very strong team of staff, with a speed and energy that bedazzled all of us at times. We will miss a passionate Director General but wish her the very best for her next professional challenge.
