Purchasing Powers: A Consumers International series to drive marketplace change
The digital transformation of commerce has introduced consumers to new habits, influence, opportunities and threats. The urgency of crises – climate, health, economy, societal upheaval – have shaken markets and demanded more from consumers. We have entered a new stage of consumption.
With every choice we make, we have the power to drive positive change for the world we want to live in. Yet the onus must not be on consumers alone – it requires collaboration across government, business, consumers and verified influencers. It requires core marketplace actors to meaningfully engage, hear and support consumers.
Today we are proud to release, Purchasing Powers, a new branded series presented by Consumers International and produced for us and series participants by BBC StoryWorks Commercial Productions. The series shares diverse stories from around the world which explore how organisations are helping consumers to make better choices and how consumer protection and empowerment are tenets in their approach.
In Digital Consumption the series looks at how innovation and influencers can be used to drive opportunity and empowerment if a consumer first approach is taken. In Sustainable Consumption it highlights the power of all consumers buying into a sustainable future and how information and tools can help us make the right choices and see our green impact straight up. In other areas including access to affordable commodities such as food, it shares how a multifaceted approach can help in sectors with complex supply chains – reaching farmers, helping health and nutrition outcomes and caregivers.
Through human-led stories, this series brings together the ecommerce entrepreneurs from the Philippines, the Finnish communities using tools to help them purchase sustainably, and the verified influencers across markets to help consumer choice.
These inspiring stories depict a new perspective on the power of the consumer for a better tomorrow and a more positive future for people and planet.
