President of CLCV honoured by French government

27 April 2016

Reine-Claude Mader the President of one of Consumers International’s French Members, Consommation, Logement et Cadre de Vie, (CLCV) today receives the medal of Commander of the Légion d’Honneur, for dedicated service to consumer rights.

One of the highest honours in France, the medal of Commander of the Légion d’Honneur will be awarded by the Minister of Economy, Industry and Digital Affairs, Emmanuel Macronto Reine-Claude, President of CLCV since 2004 and Secretary General before that for many years.

CLCV have been a member of Consumers International for more than 20 years. Active on consumer rights and consumer protection within the international movement, they notably contributed to communications and discussions with the French presidency of the G20 during the financial crisis in 2008. In particular they contributed to the development of the G20 High Level Principles (HLPs) for consumer protection; which are now a checklist for reform cited in the UN Guidelines for Consumer Protection.

CLCV celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2012, and during successive generations has used its network of local branches and practical experience over a wide range of consumer fields, including housing and public services.

CLCV’s model of engagement is an example to other associations worldwide, in making the connection between the needs of individual consumers and the establishment of their rights at global level.

Sincere congratulations to Reine-Claude for her honour, a recognition which is richly deserved.
