Test-Achats / Test-Aankoop
Test-Achats/Test-Aankoop was established in 1957 by a handful of volunteers on the model of UK and US comparative testing-based consumer organisations. It is a Council member of Consumers International.
Its main objectives are to inform, represent and defend consumers. Test-Achats/Test-Aankoop's magazine started as a quarterly in 1959 but rapidly became a monthly publication. At the end of the 80s, Test-Achats/Test-Aankoop concluded a series of partnership agreements with consumer organisations from Spain (OCU), Italy (Altroconsumo) and Portugal (DECO) which eventually led to the creation of the Euroconsumers Group. Today Euroconsumers publishes over 20 different journals and has a combined readership of more than 1 million subscribers to its main magazines. As a modern organisation, Test-Achats/Test-Aankoop and its partners have also evolved to offer a range of digital services to consumers.
Test-Achats/Test-Aankoop has a long experience of offering legal assistance to its members, every year more than 400,000 interactions are made. Since 2014, consumer organizations in Belgium have developed the legal tools to get collective redress via class actions. In this period, Test-Achats/Test-Aankoop launched several collective actions against the railway industry, airplane companies, resellers of concert tickets and VW (Dieselgate case). Competition, food safety, health care, the environment and the financial sector are other areas where Test-Achats/Test-Aankoop has a long-track record of activities on behalf of Belgian and European consumers.
