Liga Uruguaya de Defensa del Consumidor (LIUDECO)

Liga Uruguaya de Defensa del Consumidor (LIUDECO) is an independent not-for-profit consumer organisation legally recognised since 1983. LIUDECO is mainly active in the area of capacity building and consumer education: its awareness raising campaigns are designed to promote awareness of consumer legislation in schools and through the media and has more target-specific programmes such as '1,000 entrepreneurs and business managers with consumers'. LIUDECO publishes a consumer magazine in addition to numerous guides and manuals on a range of consumer issues. Its representatives sit on numerous boards and committees including the Uruguayan Standards Institute’s. Corporate social responsibility is another area where LIUDECU is active through participating in the National Committee assisting the ISO Working Group on Social Responsibility to develop ISO 26000.
