Protection and Consumer Protection Foundation of the State of São Paulo
Procon-SP is the first consumer protection agency in Brazil, founded in 1976. It is a public institution with technical, administrative, and financial autonomy, affiliated with the São Paulo State Department of Justice and Citizenship. Its mission is to balance and harmonise relationships between consumers and businesses while formulating and implementing consumer protection policies..
Procon-SP handles around one million consumer complaints annually, both in person and digitally, achieving a resolution rate of approximately 70%. For unresolved issues, experienced mediators facilitate conciliation hearings to reach amicable solutions.
It works in partnership with more than 370 municipalities in the state and conducts courses, lectures, and research, educates businesses on best practices, and enforces the Consumer Protection Code and related legislation.
