Unethical Drug Promotion
World Consumer Rights Day
15 March 2007
World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) 2007 will mark a day of action around Consumer's International's headline campaign: Unethical Drug Promotion.
Consumers are largely unaware of how their drug consumption choices are being shaped by corporate motives for gargantuan profits.
On the website
The WCRD 2007 website provides must-know information about unethical promotion: what it is, why its unethical, the risks to our health, and where the regulations are failing. You can also view some sample unethical drug advertisments and find out who needs to act.
Consumers International is working to hold governments and pharmaceutical corporations accountable for unethical drug marketing, promotion and advertising practices that are putting profit before consumer health. Take a look at the member action section to see how our national member organisations are working with us.
About the campaign
WCRD 2007 is part of our long-term campaign to tackle Unethical Drug Promotion. The purpose of this global campaign is to:

- Hold industry accountable for compliance with global codes for ethical drug promotion.
- Hold governments accountable for rigorous enforcement of regulations on drug promotion in order to uphold consumer rights to safety and information.
- Improve consumer access to credible, reliable and transparent drug and health information.
The campaign followed on from the Branding the Cure project undertaken by CI in 2006.
