The website features a map showing organic traders, partnered with available locations to buy organic produce for Brazilian consumers.

IDEC will also be organising two online debates, one entitled “The influence of media and marketing on food choices” and the other “Food labelling – what does Brazil need to improve?” Both feature expert speakers and journalists from organisations including the Alana Institute.

The launch of their campaign "The sodium you do not see", will coincide with Global Salt Awareness Week (16-22 March 2015). The campaign will have a special feature on IDEC’s website and will involve outreach through social media and events.

According to the World Food Programme, hunger currently affects only 6.9% of Brazil’s population. This does not mean that most Brazilians are healthy. The latest figures from the health ministry show that 51% of the country’s population are overweight. One in three children aged five to nine are overweight.

Unhealthy diets are linked to four of the ten biggest causes of death worldwide: overweight and obesity, high blood pressure, high blood glucose and high cholesterol.

Consumers International (CI) and the global consumer rights movement are calling for the World Health Organisation (WHO) to develop a global treaty to support consumers’ rights to healthy food. Join our campaign: https://www.thunderclap.it/projects/22307-food-treaty-now
