The UN Marrakech Process is the global effort to support the implementation of action for sustainable consumption and production by developing a 10-Year Framework of Programmes (10YFP). These programmes are designed to support countries in their shift to sustainable consumption and production.
The framework was called for in the Johannesburg Plan of Implementation (JPOI), the outcome document of the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD).
The lead agencies of the Marrakech Process are the UN Environmental Programme (UNEP) and UN Department for Economic and Social Affairs.
Seven taskforces, which are led by governments, contribute to the development of the different programmes of the 10YFP. These programmes are designed to support countries in their shift to sustainable consumption and production.
In 2010 and 2011 the UN Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD) reviews and then finalises the 10YFP.
A revised third draft of the 10YFP is available online, as well as the previous drafts on the Marrakech Process website.
