Consumers International members call for ‘Big Data, Big Deal For Consumers’

16 Jun 2017

Euroconsumers, a group of five Consumers International members, have today launched a declaration calling for consumers to be given greater control over their personal data and greater access to the benefits the data produces.

As data rapidly becomes the world’s greatest commodity, the group of consumer organisations want to see consumers playing a key role in this digital data economy and that their rights to privacy are respected at all times.

The members involved are: Altroconsumo, DECO Proteste, OCU, Proteste!, Test Achats, Euroconsumers.

The declaration states: 'To fully grasp the extraordinary potential that the Internet offers us today, we have to overcome the often sterile and fruitless opposition between entre- preneurial freedom and the fundamental rights of citizens/consumers. As Consumers Organizations, we are therefore ready to join forces with all stake- holders to foster the conditions for a stable social economic development on the basis of a new digital value chain'.
