Consumer Advocacy Centre (CAC)
CAC provides advocacy, research and support for consumers seeking redress. It represents consumers at various national and international conferences and workshops. It has carried out several research assignments on various consumer issues, including quality of ready-to-eat foods in major urban areas in Ghana, ethical marketing of pharmaceuticals in Ghana, marketing of banned baby foods and drugs as well as the availability of genetically manufactured (GM) foods on the Ghanaian market. CAC representatives serve on various ISO and Ghana Standard Authority (GSA) Technical Committees.
The Association also participates regularly in various public consultations organised by the public authorities, particularly the Ministry of Trade and Industry. CAC is also represented on the African Teleconference Dialogue on Consumer Protection organised monthly by the Federal Trade Commission of the US and also facilitated in drafting, consultation and passage of Ghana Consumer Protection bill, which is being considered by Parliament.
