National Observatory for Consumer Protection (ONPECO)
ONPECO is a non-profit civil society organisation, founded on October 5, 2016, and publicly launched on November 22 of the same year. Its creation stemmed from the need to strengthen the defence of consumer rights and promote a more informed and participatory citizenry in its relationship with the market. ONPECO operates under the Constitution of the Dominican Republic, particularly the provisions relating to fundamental and consumer rights, as well as Law 358-05, the General Law for the Protection of Consumer and User Rights.
ONPECO's mission is to promote the effective enforcement of the rules and laws that protect consumers, contributing to the development of a responsible and informed citizenry capable of fully exercising its rights in the market for goods and services. ONPECO continues to solidify its position as an organisation committed to defending consumer rights, promoting healthy eating, responsible consumption, environmental protection, and building active citizenship. Its collaborative work with public institutions, social organisations, and national and international bodies contributes to strengthening a more just, sustainable, and participatory society.
