Let's act now to get AI right for consumers

Last year, breakthroughs in generative AI took the digital world by storm. Its adoption by consumers has grown rapidly, and the technology is set to have an enormous impact, in the way we work, create, communicate, gather information and much more.

On World Consumer Rights Day - 15 March 2024 - we will lead a global conversation on Fair and responsible AI for consumers. Our campaign will bring the consumer movement together with industry and government leaders. We will dive into the use of generative AI chatbots deployed in internet ‘search’, and the opportunities and risks for consumers.

Consumer advocates lead a global call for fair and responsible AI

Last week leading consumer advocate groups, international organisations, business, government and civil society united for World Consumer Rights Day in a pertinent call for Fair and Responsible AI. Throughout the week, we drove expert debate on core consumer concerns amidst the proliferation of AI. On World Consumer Rights Day itself – Friday 15 March – Members and consumer protection advocates in other sectors undertook campaigns across media, consumer pop-up marketplaces, education in schools, online and in-person events, government dialogue and much more.
