About the role: 

To support the Finance team comprising of the ‘Head of Finance and Organisation Development’ and ‘Finance Processing, Analysis and Reporting Specialist’ in the day-to-day running of the Finance department and other administration and operational tasks. Key finance tasks include ensuring financial records are accurate and kept up to date, recording all financial transactions and maintaining the ledgers on Business Central accounting system.

This role will suit someone who is looking for a varied accounts role to start their career in finance in a small organisation, has a can-do attitude, is proactive and can adapt easily to daily requirements and priorities.  An ongoing commitment to an accountancy/book-keeping qualification is preferable and systems experience with ‘Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central’ accounting package would be an added advantage.

Fair Finance is a clear priority for consumer organisations everywhere and digital finance is one of the key innovations in the marketplace and in our digital public infrastructure which can both support consumer wellbeing - and yet also increase risks for consumers. We need to engage consumer voices and consumer protection better in how digital finance is shaped for the future.


Consumers International embarked in 2022 on exploring how digital finance can be improved for people everywhere. World Consumer Rights Day 2022 focused on our vision for fair, safe and secure digital finance and mobilised our global network of Members and stakeholders.
The role of the Director is to ensure the effective delivery and scalability of key initiatives in 2024 at a pivotal point, and ensure the foundation for long term sustainability of Consumers International programme on digital finance.

About the role

The overall purpose of the role is to support Consumers International’s research, analysis and global advocacy on the topic of sustainable consumption. This will involve assisting the Sustainable Consumption Specialist in the coordination of activities under the Consumer Information Programme of the United Nations’ One Planet Network and supporting the implementation of Consumers International’s new strategy on sustainable consumption. This strategy is focused on the consumer opportunities and challenges created by new technology and a new approach of working with a broader network of stakeholders to deliver positive change for consumers around the world.

This is a varied role that will involve working with Consumers International’s teams and partners to deliver research, briefings and reports, advocacy outreach efforts, co-ordinate projects and communicate with external stakeholders including in governments, businesses and civil society.

This role is an excellent opportunity for someone with an interest in sustainability and keen to make a contribution to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The Lead, Partnerships & Engagement, Digital Consumer Rights will focus specifically on partnerships to support Consumers International’s work to ensure the online marketplace is safe, secure and sustainable for consumers. Topics within our programme include digital finance, ecommerce, data governance, consumer harms online, connected devices and virtual economies.

Working to growth goals, both impact and financial, the Lead, Partnerships & Engagement, Digital Consumer Rights will develop and maintain the latest insights about potential partners. They will lead engagement with these stakeholders for impact, develop partnership approaches, actively manage partnerships and support the strategic development of the organisation and its funding streams. The successful candidate will demonstrate ambition for, and commitment to, consumer protection and empowerment. They will be globally minded, have a keen interest in an evolved and better marketplace for consumers, people and planet and be passionate about the role of business partnerships in shifting the marketplace to reach these goals. They will have experience of securing and managing significant, long-term strategic partnerships and network building.

The role is currently fixed term with potential to change to a permanent role.

To build and deliver a unique, global, multi-stakeholder Change Agenda programme on energy systems, which may include various aspects of consumer rights for energy including energy access but also in the home, in transport and other areas. The strategy and programme will drive notable impact through a range of appropriate intervention points from research to consumer campaigns, recommendations to business and government, standard setting and more.
