Show banks the yellow card
Consumers need a banking
referee!
Stunts are always interesting to journalists and provide a
useful hook to help you get the maximum media coverage on 15 March.
One way to highlight WCRD would be to 'show banks the yellow
card'!
How?
- Ask a representative from your organisation to dress up as a
referee with appropriate kit, a whistle and a large yellow card
with a short phrase such as 'Play fair!' or 'Fair financial
rules!'
- Choose your location - a single bank that represents the
financial services sector or is a particular target for your
campaign, the financial serivces regulator or an area that is known
as the financial district.
- Invite the media to watch (and film!). Hold a press conference
straight afterwards to explain why your referee is giving the banks
a yello card and why consumers need a referee and fair rules to
ensure banks play fair.
You might also want to stage a five-a-side football match -
consumers against bankers! The banking team will need to play
unfairly (for instance tying the laces of the consumers' shoes
together or moving the goal posts). Remember you may need
permission to hold a stunt like this in a busy city centre.
