How is the digital age shaping consumer rights? Have your say

27 Oct 2011

CI's UK member Consumer Focus is looking for input into a new project on the types of challenges consumers will face in the future. Things like privacy in a surveillance society, digital identity management, and the fast pace of technological power.

Working with CTRL-SHIFT (a UK consumer consultancy) they are currently 'crowd-sourcing' any and all ideas about the future of consumer detriment in the next five years.  If you would like to get involved and share your opinion, you can do so here:

The starting point for Consumer Focus' work is the recognition that widespread use of the internet has made powerful, new approaches to empowerment possible, which would not have been feasible even a decade ago.

The new initiative will look to understand both the potential and the risks of the disruptive forces that the internet unleashes and seek to harness and apply them in the consumer interest.

One strand of the work, the focus of this research, will be to identify areas of potential future detriment to consumers in the medium term future - from now until approximately 2016 (roughly a 5 year period) - and to map out the ways in which we can work collaboratively with stakeholders to mitigate these risks, and maximise opportunities for confident and effective use of digital technology by consumers.

Join in the discussion and help shape their work here:
