New Zealand: Consumer NZ launches website to compare prices for internet, phone and TV
05 Sep 2011
Consumer NZ has launched a telecommunications comparison
website which enables consumers to find the best deals from
telecommunications and ISP providers.
Telme.org.nz provides
price comparisons for internet, landline, mobile, TV and mobile
broadband services. The site, which is free, enables consumers to
make comparisons of the myriad deals on offer and what those
services will cost on an on-going basis.
The site has been developed in an effort to introduce more
transparency to consumers in pricing of telecommunications
services.
Informed consumers
Consumer NZ Chief Executive Sue Chetwin says: "Telme will help
people to work out if they are getting a good deal from
telecommunications providers. By spending just a few minutes on the
site people will be able to compare prices from the various telcos
side by side.
"They will be able to make an informed decision about how much
they want to pay for the services that suit them."
Using the free site is simple, Chetwin says. "Consumers input
their usage of various services and Telme presents a range of
suitable options, clearly outlining the price comparison between
them. Consumers can initiate a switch to a new provider via the
site."
Consumer NZ has worked with the industry to build the site and
is delighted to at last bring a service to New Zealanders where
they can easily compare telco services, she said.
Clarity for consumers
Like the development of the Consumer Powerswitch site, which
enables people to make easy comparisons of electricity and gas
retailers' offerings, Consumer NZ is looking to promote competition
in the telco industry and to demystify the huge number of available
plans.
