Media Accreditation

CI World Congress 2011: Press Credentials & Guidelines

Press accreditation will only provide access to the Congress venue for plenary and sub-plenary sessions on 4 and 5 May. Fringe events, the General Assembly and the Congress social programme are open to CI members and/or delegates only.

Accreditation can be granted at the Congress venue during the event; however we strongly advise securing your pass in advance.

To secure your press accreditation, please read the guidelines below and send the required material and the completed Press Registration Form to congress@consint.org with the subject heading 'press accreditation request'.

Press credentials to cover Consumers International's World Congress 2011 will be granted to journalists who are employed by accredited news organisations, attending the event for the purpose of editorial coverage.

Press credentials will be granted to media professionals from the following:

  • Newspapers, weeklies, and magazines
  • Wire services
  • Broadcast media
  • Trade/specialist media: consumer, CSR, sustainability, finance, health, food, technology, environmental, and development publications
  • Web media
  • Freelance writers
  • Issue-related blogs

Reporters and writers must provide proof of credentials to receive a complimentary press badge to attend the Congress. CI reserves the right to grant press privileges to individuals on a case-by-case basis.


Required material for receiving official approval

For journalists:

  • Media identification, such as an international accredited press pass, issued by a recognised news organisation
  • Business card clearly stating affiliation with and position within a news organisation, ie editor, publisher, writer, reporter, producer (this can be an email card or an official email signature)
  • Letter on official letterhead from the editor of a publication/website or producer of a broadcast programme certifying the affiliation, verifying assignment to the meeting, and including the editor's contact information.


For freelance journalists:

Copies of, or weblinks to, bylined articles relating to the following specialist subject areas: consumer, CSR, sustainability, finance, health, food, technology, environmental and development.


For journalism students:

  • A letter on official school letterhead, signed by a department professor, verifying assignment to attend the CI World Congress, and including the professor's contact information.


For bloggers:

Bloggers must provide the URL for the website for which they are writing; examples of posts that demonstrate recent coverage of consumer rights-related issues. CI reserves the right to grant bloggers press credentials on a case-by-case basis.


Press credentials will not be issued to the following representatives:

  • Advertising sales representatives of publications
  • Spouses and other guests of journalists attending the meeting
  • Advertising, marketing, or public relations representatives from exhibitor companies or agencies
  • Representatives of organisations selling or producing publications, video or audio tapes.

 

Individuals with complimentary press badges that violate CI press policies will immediately forfeit press credentials to the meeting as well as to any subsequent meetings.


Press policy violations include:

  • Selling, marketing, or representing a company for the purposes of obtaining advertising and/or subscriptions from any registrant or exhibitor marketing a product or service displayed at a CRF meeting
  • Misrepresentation to obtain press credentials to cover Congress
  • Product promotion that implies CI, or a CI member organisation, endorsement.
