Apply for Funding: Consumer Information for Sustainable Consumption

Consumers International (CI) is pleased to share a call for proposals to the United Nations 10YFP Trust Fund on Consumer Information for Sustainable Consumption.

The Trust Fund is part of the UN’s 10YFP Consumer Information Programme, which CI co-leads with the environment ministries of Germany and Indonesia. It is a USD $500,000 fund to support activities which enhance the quality and reliability of information about the sustainability of products and services provided to, and shared between, consumers. 

The call for applications to the Trust Fund is open to CI Members, other NGOs and Government institutions/agencies in developing countries and transitional economies - see the Development Assistance Committee list (pdf).

The closing date for applications is 19 June 2015, 6pm Paris time.

Selected projects can contribute to research, capacity building, implementation or the scaling up of tools and policies to enhance products and services’ sustainability information. Eligible CI Members are invited to submit proposals which contribute to the programme’s objectives:

1. Improving availability, accessibility and quality of sustainability information.

2. Drive changes in government and business to support best practices in sustainability information to consumers.

3. Enhance communication to drive behavioural change.

Types of projects supported 

Projects’ geographical scope may be at the regional, national or local level. They may include, for example:

  • Toolkits, training modules and best practice guidance, or capacity building and training programmes.
  • Research and analysis on the drivers or impact of sustainability information on consumer behaviour, and effective communications practices.
  • Product life cycle data or impact assessment analysis to enhance sustainability information (e.g. for national/regional priority products/sectors).
  • New or improved communication tools (e.g. online platform, smartphone app) providing reliable information to consumers or between consumers.
  • Development, promotion or collaboration between a national/regional ecolabel(s) or voluntary sustainability standard(s).
  • Development of an eco-innovation business models with a focus on consumer information.
  • Supporting retailers, brands or advertisers to promote reliable sustainability information; or the implementation of relevant public policies.

CI Members are advised to align proposals as closely as possible with one or more of the objectives and activities as set out in the 10YFP Consumer Information Programme’s Work Areas.

Projects should be between 12 and 24 months in duration, with funding requirements between USD $100,000 and USD $200,000.
