CI welcomes French proposal to host a high level conference on Financial Consumer Protection in October.

CI welcomed the proposal from Christine Lagarde, the French finance minister, to host a high level conference on financial consumer protection when the G20 finance ministers meet in October.

France is this year's president of the G20 and their offer to host the conference is taken as a sign of their support for this work.

The conference is likely to be a final step in completing the report on 'options to enhance consumer protection in financial services' that the G20 leaders requested when they met in Seoul last year. The report is due to be submitted at the G20 leaders summit which will be taking place in November in France. CI members in G20 countries are currently writing to their finance ministers reminding them of the importance of consumer protection.

CI's global Consumers for Fair Financial Services campaign is calling for increased access to stable, fair and competitive financial markets.
