Description:First created in 1947, the Danish Consumer Council represents the interests of consumers on more than 200 committees, boards and councils, which are dealing with matters of importance to consumers. It articulates the views of consumers to public authorities and to businesses. Its dialogue with the business community has led to the establishment of 17 private complaint bodies covering sectors as diverse as insurance, banking and investments, travel and the building industry. Forbrugerradet has more than 85,000 subscribers to its magazine 'Tænk' ("Think") which was founded in 1974. The Consumer Council is involved in a wide range of issues: food quality, environmental protection, health services, financial and legal services and issues connected with the media, telecommunications, etc. The Council consists of representatives from 27 national organisations, such as environmental, household and women's organisations, organisations representing young people and the elderly, trade unions and educational organisations.
