Whether you're looking for a mortgage, or opening a bank
account for the first time, having the know-how to negotiate
complex financial products is essential. Yet few of us have ever
received adequate financial education.
Financial illiteracy is an issue across the world and, with
around 150 million new consumers of financial services joining the
global economy each year, the problem is on the increase.
CI helps consumer groups provide financial education. Our latest
project involves working with poor and vulnerable consumers in East
Africa.
Know Your Money: how to provide financial education in
Africa is a film about the financial education Counsellor's
Handbook that we are piloting in Kenya and Tanzania.
The film is primarily aimed at consumer rights advocates in the
developing world. We hope that, by showing how easy the handbook is
to use, others will want to get involved in the project.
